How to Read Nutrition Labels

How to Read Nutrition Labels

You are in the supermarket.  You want to buy a juice but one that is healthy. You pick up an apple juice, or an orange juice. Then you look at the label.

Here’s an important rule:

The first ingredient on the label is what the drink has the most of.

On this orange juice bottle, the first ingredient is water. That means water makes up most of the drink. Orange juice comes next, followed by things like acids, sweeteners, and other additives.

Now, if you are just buying this juice for its nutrients, it's a bit watered down. A juice with water added is more diluted and gives you less nutrition.

The Best Option:

A juice that says 100% orange juice with pulp. This is closer to squeezing an orange yourself at home.

Always read the ingredients list. The order of the ingredients tells you how real the food really is.
